map of historic places in Taxila

Taxila is  a historical city in northwest Pakistan whose ruins are located about 22 miles (35 km) northwest of Rawalpindi.
Taxila is one of the world's most important archaeological sites. It is a city for its strong ties to Buddhism and for being the country's Buddhist capital. Its prosperity in ancient times stemmed from its location at the crossroads of three major trade routes: one from eastern India, which the Greek writer Megasthenes referred to as the "Royal Highway," another from western Asia, and a third from Kashmir and Central Asia. In 1980, Taxila was designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. Taxila is the small city which is at the border of Punjab. Moving ahead from Taxila , KPK starts that is one of four province of Pakistan.

HISTORY OF TAXILA:

In 327 BC, Alexander the Great conquered Taxila, which was then governed by the Mauryans. It was under Asoka's reign that it achieved the pinnacle of its civilization and culture. Taxila was conquered and destroyed. The Gandhara period was Taxila's most recent significant historical period. Taxila rose to prominence as a world-renowned centre for philosophy and art throughout this period. The city has a large tourism base and attracts many visitors from China and Greece, primarily because it is a Buddhist centre, and Buddhists from all over the world flock to visit the city's stupas because of its religious significance to them. For them stupa is a place of meditation.

Historical places in Taxila:

Taxila, as the birthplace of many civilizations, contains numerous ancient sites worth visiting, including fortified cities, monasteries,  tombs, and more. Because of its close proximity to Islamabad, Pakistan's capital, this is an ideal tourist destination.

The religions of Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism are prominently represented in these artefacts uncovered in three ancient cities.

Taxila Museum houses one of Pakistan's most important and extensive collections of stone Buddhist sculpture dating from the first to seventh century.

I'd like to share my visit to the Taxila Museum with you. I went to a museum. A
s we entered the museum, we are greeted by a hall flanked by a massive Sprinkler-type device, followed by several antique objects put in various section locations. To keep everything safe, everything is kept behind a glass cabinet. Buddhist statues are grouped together in one location. The museum contains a variety of statues of various sizes.
Houses for museum employees are located outside the museum. There is also a lovely garden outside there.

MONASTERIES IN TAXILA:

Taxila is the hub of historical monasteries. In the historical city , there are many  tiny stupas. Stupa is center hemisphere shaped like dome which is the sign of meditation and relaxation for old people called buddhists.

The first is the Dharmarajika stupa, which is two kilometres (2 k.m) away from the Taxila museum.

Then there's the Glen of Giri, about three and a half miles(3.5 miles) from Dharmarajika stupa.  It  has two stupas and a castle erected in a fissure by a spring of delicious water.

Jaulian is another magnificent complex of  stupas and a monastery with a well-preserved assembly hall, store rooms, kitchen, and baths.Julian university is one of the oldest university.

Mohra Moradu, two miles west of Jaulian, is another well-preserved monastery.

An image-less temple in the classic Greek style with sandstone columns and cornices may be found in Jandial, about a mile and a half from Sirsukh. From the Gandhara Civilization, this is a Buddhist temple. After driving through the main gate of UET Taxila, a small road on the left leads to the Jandial temple, which is flanked by farmland and dwellings. The main columns of the temple are the sole attractive features.

One of the most prominent Buddhist sites in the Taxila region is Jinnan Wali Dheri. It's the ruins of a Buddhist monastery complex from the 5th century AD, part of the Gandhara civilization's ruins. It is one of the Taxila valley's best-preserved Buddhist monastic complexes.
